Frequently asked questions
How the directory works, where reviews live, and what florists get free.
Most questions about LocalFlowerShop come down to three things: what the directory is, where the reviews went, and what a florist gets for free. The short answers are below, grouped so you can skip to the one you came for, and each opens into a fuller answer.
How the directory is built
The listings began as public business records for every state, then went through repeated cleaning to remove everything that is not a walk-in flower shop: grocery floral counters, wholesalers, nurseries, gift shops, event planners, farms, funeral homes, home studios and the national relay companies that trade under local-sounding names. Each surviving shop was checked against its own website, and the directory is swept every month for closures and moves. What is left is meant to be the complete set of real flower shops in the country, one page per shop, one page per town.
How to read a listing
Every listing shows the shop's street address, phone, hours by day, the categories it works in and the towns it delivers to. A "Featured" tag means the shop holds a Premium listing; a green checkmark means it has agreed to the satisfaction guarantee. Neither tag changes the facts, and neither is influenced by ratings. The review badge on each listing is drawn live from RateAFlorist, our sister site, and links to the shop's review page there.
How to send flowers with it
Search the recipient's town, pick a shop, call it. Say where the flowers are going and when, describe the occasion, and let the florist tell you what is fresh. Agree the price on the call and give a card message if you want one. There is no form on this site because a two-minute phone call to the shop gets better flowers for the money than any order form, and because every dollar you agree with the florist reaches the florist.
Where the reviews are
On RateAFlorist, our sister site. It shares the same shop listings and florist accounts, collects and moderates the customer reviews, and keeps the star ratings honest by never selling them. LocalFlowerShop shows each shop's RateAFlorist badge and links to its review page; it has no review form of its own, by design, so that the directory can be judged on accuracy and the review site on trust.
What florists get
A free listing with their address, phone, hours, categories and delivery towns, which they can claim and edit themselves. Premium is optional, priced plainly at $49 a month or $499 a year, and buys visibility only: a photo, a website link, featured placement in the town, the Verified Local Florist checkmark and, included, the Premium listing on RateAFlorist. Nothing a florist can buy changes a fact or a rating.
The questions
What is LocalFlowerShop?
A nationwide directory of real local flower shops in the United States. Every listing is a brick-and-mortar florist with a street address, opening hours and a phone number that rings in the shop. We list shops so you can call them directly; we do not take orders or payments.
How is LocalFlowerShop different from ordering flowers online?
Most big flower websites are order-gatherers: they take your order and a fee, then pass what is left to a local shop that never spoke to you. LocalFlowerShop gives you the shop itself. You call, you agree what is fresh and what it costs, and the whole price goes to the people arranging your flowers.
Is every listing a real shop?
Yes. Listings come from public business records and are checked against each shop's own website and address. Order-gathering call centers, home-based studios with no storefront, wholesalers, grocery floral counters and closed businesses are removed as we find them. If one slipped through, tell us on the contact page and we will check.
How do I find a florist near a specific address?
Search the city or zip code of the recipient, not your own. The city page lists the shops located there first, then nearby florists that deliver into that town, with each shop's hours and phone number.
Can I read reviews of a shop here?
Reviews and star ratings live on our sister site RateAFlorist. Every LocalFlowerShop listing shows the shop's RateAFlorist badge and links to its review page, where you can read moderated reviews and write your own.
Why are reviews on a separate site?
So the directory stays a directory. LocalFlowerShop concentrates on being complete and accurate about shops, hours and delivery areas. RateAFlorist concentrates on moderating honest reviews and keeping ratings that cannot be bought. The two share the same listings, so a shop's details match on both.
Are the star ratings real?
Ratings on RateAFlorist are the plain average of moderated customer reviews. No florist can pay to raise a rating or hide a bad one; paid features on either site affect visibility only and are labelled.
Does LocalFlowerShop deliver flowers or take orders?
No. We never handle orders or money. Call the shop, or order through the shop's own website when it has one, and deal with the florist directly.
Why do some listings show a website link and others do not?
Free listings show the shop's address, phone and hours. The website link, a photo and featured placement are part of a shop's optional Premium listing. This keeps the basic directory free for every shop without hiding the essentials from you.
What does the Verified Local Florist checkmark mean?
The shop has a Premium listing and has agreed to the Rate A Florist 100% Satisfaction Guarantee: it stands behind its flowers, plants, gifts and delivery service and will work directly with you to resolve any concern.
What does "delivers to" mean on a listing?
Shops can list the nearby towns they deliver to. When you search a town with no flower shop of its own, the florists that deliver there appear instead, each marked with where the shop actually is.
A shop's hours or phone number are wrong. How do I report it?
Use the contact page and name the shop and the correction. If you own the shop, claim the listing instead: claiming is free and lets you fix your details yourself, on both sites, from one login.
I own a flower shop. Is my shop listed, and what does it cost?
Probably already listed, free of charge. Search for it, open the listing and click "Claim this free listing". A free listing includes your address, phone, hours, categories and delivery towns. Premium is optional at $49 a month or $499 a year: it adds your photo, website link, gallery, announcements and featured placement in your city, and it includes a Premium listing on RateAFlorist (a $29 a month value) at no extra cost.
Do I need a separate login for RateAFlorist?
No. Florist accounts are shared: the login you create on either site works on both. Manage your details here, answer reviews and grab your review badge on RateAFlorist.
Can I have my shop removed?
Yes. Claim the listing or write to us from the contact page with the shop name and your role, and we will remove it. Most owners prefer to keep it: it is a free page with your hours and phone number that customers find when they search your town.
Where does the listing data come from?
From public business records and the shops themselves, checked against each shop's website. We store business facts only: name, address, phone, hours, categories and delivery towns. We do not copy or store reviews, photos or ratings from other services.
Is LocalFlowerShop free to use?
Completely free for shoppers, with no account needed. Florists get a free listing; optional Premium features are the only thing ever charged for, and they are clearly labelled.
What does the "Featured" tag on a listing mean?
The shop holds a Premium listing. Featured shops sit at the top of their town's list and show a photo, a website link and any announcement the shop has posted. The tag is bought by the shop; it is not a rating and it says nothing about quality, which is why the rating badge next to it is drawn separately from RateAFlorist.
Why does a town page show shops from other towns?
Because they deliver there. When a town has few or no shops of its own, the florists from nearby towns that have listed it as a delivery area appear below the local shops, each marked with where the shop actually is, so you can still find a real florist for that address rather than falling back to a national website.
How do I find flower shops near me right now?
Use the "Use my location" link under the search box on the home page. Your browser asks permission, sends your coordinates once, and the site opens the nearest town that has flower shops. Nothing is stored. If you would rather not share your location, the town name or zip code works just as well.
Can I use the directory in my own app or with an AI assistant?
Yes. The directory has a free, read-only API and an MCP server for AI agents, documented at /docs/api, with no key required. Keep request rates reasonable, attribute LocalFlowerShop where the data is shown, and do not copy the directory in bulk; the terms describe the limits.
Is the site independent, or owned by a flower company?
Independent. It is built and run by a small web company, not by a wire service, a wholesaler or any florist. No shop pays to be listed and no company pays to have a competitor removed. The only money that changes hands is a florist choosing Premium visibility for its own listing.
